He won the Faculty Member of the year award for the Florida Association of Postsecondary Schools and Colleges in 2012.

Lester pioneered the pirate-themed, literacy based, educational video game called Plunder, which was a Serious Games Challenge Finalist at the I/ITSEC Conference. He has presented on topics such as using educational video games to reinforce learning outcomes at conferences like: FETC, USDLA, APSCU, Serious Play, and Pearson Cite. The key project that he initiated and is currently working on is a dynamic Leadership Game-Sim (2016).
